Volunteer with HCN

For over 30 years, HCN has been the constant in the lives of San Francisco's most vulnerable families. While they move from shelter to shelter, from crisis to crisis, we remain a steady thread of connection and care.

We rely on volunteers like you to contribute your talents, energy, and love to enrich and expand the blanket of support and care we wrap our clients in.

​

There are many ways to volunteer at HCN and make a true impact in the lives of those we serve.

​

  1. Ensure you’re subscribed to our newsletter to hear about all upcoming volunteer opportunities.

  2. Review the various ongoing and seasonal volunteer opportunities and choose one that works for you.

  3. Complete the sign up form below or reach out to us to sign up for a volunteer opportunity or if you have additional skills and experience you’d like to lend to HCN.

Year-Round Opportunities

Diaper Drive

Our families are always in need of diapers. We maintain a Wish List you can order directly from, or you can collect unopened packages or diapers, wipes, and diaper cream. Volunteers support our diaper bank by:

  • Hosting a virtual diaper drive. Buy off the wish list and encourage friends and family to do so as well.

  • Organizing an in-person diaper drive at their church, workplace, or other location.

Seasonal Opportunities

We have events throughout the year where we collect supplies to support our clients with season-specific needs. As these events approach, we include these opportunities in our newsletter.

You can support these events in multiple ways:

  • Work within your communities to collect supplies, either in person or by encouraging folks to buy from our Wish List.

  • Attend an in-person event at HCN to put together kits or care packages.

Professional Services

We periodically need support from folks with specific professional expertise including content management, web design, social media management, and video editing. We post all these opportunities on Catchafire.

Create a Catchafire account and follow HCN to get notifications about projects.

Spring: Summer Wellness Kits

  • Collect donations throughout April and May.

  • Distribute the first week of June.

​

Summer: Back to School Drive

  • Collect donations and volunteer events between May and July.

  • Distribute backpacks the first two weeks of August.

​

Fall: Diaper Bags & Baby Supplies

  • Collect donations and volunteer events between September and early October.

  • Distribute baby bags from late October through the holidays, as supplies last.

​

Fall: Thanksgiving Sides Drive

  • Collect donations from October through early November.

  • Volunteer event and distribute packages the week before Thanksgiving.

​

Winter: Holiday Toy Drive

  • Collect donations between October and November.

  • Volunteer days in the week before winter break.

  • Distribution in mid-December, just before school gets out.

     It is an honor to do my part in supporting the incredible people and programs at HCN.

 

     As a woman and a mother, I'm passionate about supporting and uplifting other parents and their children. It is particularly important during this time that we care for each other and share what we have to share with those who can benefit from it.

 

     HCN provides critical services and programs that truly make a difference in the lives of those they serve and I find it deeply meaningful to support the work they do.
