Black Birthing Health Initiative

HCN's Black Birthing Health Initiative (BBHI) is a comprehensive and vital community wellness program aimed at addressing the unique needs of Black/African American birthing individuals and their families in San Francisco. This initiative is designed to promote mental health and wellness, provide client-centered and culturally tailored care, and ensure accessibility to essential services.

Services
HCN's Black Birthing Health Initiative (BBHI) offers a comprehensive range of services tailored to the unique needs of Black/African American birthing individuals and their families in San Francisco.
Mental Health Prevention and Wellness Services
BBHI connects individuals and organizations working to support families, birthing people, and prenatal and postpartum communities in San Francisco. Through these partnerships, we strengthen engagement models and expand services that promote mental health, connection, and overall well-being.
Linkages and Referrals
As part of BBHI’s commitment to a collaborative approach, we prioritize building and sustaining strong community partnerships. We engage in internal and cross-agency conversations to stay responsive to the needs and realities impacting birthing people and families in San Francisco. We also actively identify and partner with community-based organizations to strengthen coordination and expand our collective impact.
Community Trainings
BBHI’s services center community engagement and client-centered mental health care, with a focus on birthing people and families most impacted by inequities in maternal and community health. We build relationships with individuals and community-based organizations, participate in local events, and expand outreach through trusted partnerships. Our work also includes community trainings and culturally responsive resources that support mental health and overall well-being.
