Become a Donor Advocate
HCN's Donor Advocates are a community of passionate supporters coming together to build a sustainable foundation for homeless children and families in San Francisco.

Demand for HCN's services is growing even as public funding shrinks. Donor Advocates help to fill that gap by creating a network of care and support among their peers, fostering a spirit of compassion whose impact will last for years to come.
​
​Our goal is to raise $100,000 in 2026 through fundraising efforts and events organized by our advocates in their networks.

The Role and Commitment
Donor Advocates support our fundraising efforts in many different ways, both directly and indirectly. We can help you create an advocacy plan that:

Is realistic for you.

Is based on a level of commitment you can maintain for one year.

Maximizes the impact for the families we serve.

We ask that Donor Advocates be willing and able to commit to at least 25 hours of time over the year. Our goal is for each Donor Advocate to directly or indirectly support fundraising efforts of at least $5,000. This can be through direct or in-kind donations.
Timeline
HCN will provide you training, support, and opportunities to connect with fellow advocates throughout the year.

Each Advocate's schedule looks different, depending on their own plan, but in general you can look forward to the following types of activities: ​​​

A getting started call to discuss your interests, capacity, and experience. The goal of this call is to build the first steps of an advocacy plan that aligns with your values and interests, and that is sustainable for you.

Quarterly Donor Advocate and HCN development staff meetings where we come together to talk, eat, support each other, and dream up creative ways to collaborate and increase our impact.

Optional one-on-one coaching calls with HCN development staff and other advocates to support your efforts.

Participation in HCN's seasonal volunteer opportunities. Advocates often participate in HCN-organized volunteer activities and also extend the impact of these activities by organizing events and drives in support. For example, by collecting back-to-school supplies and donations within their communities in support of HCN's Back to School Drive.

Joyous and inspiring events scheduled by other advocates, and by you! These take place throughout the year, depending on folks' schedules and availability. ​
