Welcome, Dr. Tiana Moore-Fitzsimmons

Dr. April Y. Silas, the Board of Directors, and the staff are thrilled to welcome Dr. Tiana Moore-Fitzsimmons as the new Chief Operating Officer at Homeless Children’s Network!

Dr. Moore-Fitzsimmons is a developmental psychologist with 12+ years of experience in child and family well-being research, policy advocacy, and programmatic leadership. In her new role at HCN, she will bring her expertise in housing stability, community engagement, and data-driven program design to help scale our organization and deepen our impact for the children and families we serve.

Dr. Moore-Fitzsimmons shares:

I’m incredibly thrilled to join Homeless Children’s Network at such an important moment in the organization’s growth. Throughout my career, I’ve been deeply committed to improving outcomes for children and families, particularly those navigating housing instability and other systemic barriers. I’m excited to bring my background in child development, housing and homelessness, and organizational strategy to help strengthen the systems that support the incredible community-focused programs HCN leads. Most of all, I’m looking forward to learning from and partnering with HCN’s staff and the families served to build on what is already a powerful legacy of service and impact.

Dr. Moore-Fitzsimmons comes to us with a strong track record of leadership in housing and homelessness services. Most recently, she served as Deputy Chief Program Officer for Program Development at Brilliant Corners, one of California’s largest nonprofit housing and supportive services providers, where she led efforts to strengthen equitable, high-quality service delivery across a division of more than 350 staff serving youth, single adults, and families throughout California. Prior to that, she was Policy Director at UCSF’s Benioff Homelessness and Housing Initiative, where she led the research-to-policy translation team and co-authored a landmark report on the largest representative study of homelessness in decades, the California Statewide Study of People Experiencing Homelessness.

Her earlier career includes roles as Associate Director at Barnard College and Assistant Director of Education Programs and Diversity at Stanford University’s Office of Graduate Education, where she led equity-centered recruitment, training, and program assessment initiatives. Dr. Moore-Fitzsimmons holds a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology and an M.S. in Applied Statistics from Columbia University, and an M.A. in Sociology and a B.A. in Human Biology from Stanford University.

Dr. Moore-Fitzsimmons’s work has influenced housing and child-welfare policy well beyond any single organization. She has authored a book chapter and several peer-reviewed publications examining the relationship between poverty, housing stability, and early childhood development, and has shared her expertise in more than 45 speaking engagements, including with the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. She also received the 2023 UCSF STAR Award for leadership and excellence in service.
