Kuamka Community Healing Arts Program

The Kuamka Community Healing Arts Program trains and supports Black/African American artists and therapists to facilitate healings arts groups throughout San Francisco. In Swahili, Kuamka means “to awaken,” or “the awakening”. The intention is that each artist will awaken a new healing both within themselves and the community with their unique expression of creativity.

The Vision: Awaken new pathways to healing through community storytelling and creative expression.

“I like that they listen, and they listen to understand, instead of just, you know responding. I like that they give feedback, that is, you know, not just agreeing with me, but understanding where me and my child are coming from, and different point of views, and that, you know, there’s no limit to the help that they give us, and you know, it’s just something that I appreciate, I know my son appreciates.”
