HCN programs work to decrease the traumas of homelessness and domestic violence on children, youth, and their families, to provide child care consultation to shelter-based child care centers, as well as to strengthen the effectiveness of the HCN Collaborative. We accomplish our mission by providing the following services:
Family Counseling:
promote effective communication between family members,
thereby learning to cope more effectively with the traumas of homelessness
and domestic violence.
Play and Talk Therapy:
give physically/emotionally/sexually abused children
an opportunity to work through their traumas and reduce the risk of recycling
abusive behaviors.
Parent-Child Counseling: teach positive child-rearing skills.
Parenting Groups: increase the parent's confidence and competence in their parenting
skills.
Case Management:
supply resources and referrals which are designed to enhance the sense
of connection to community for the family.
Child Care Consultation: give support/consultation to child care centers serving homeless
children ages 0-5.
After Care Services: support services for formerly homeless families to help them continue
on the road to independence and stability.
Literacy and Communications Center:
provide homeless families with technical resources
and additional educational support as a supplement to traditional schooling.
Advocacy Support: offer city/state-wide
advocacy for homeless children and their families.
