Our Mission
HCN's Mission is to decrease the trauma of homelessness and domestic violence, to increase the strength and effectiveness of the HCN Collaborative, and to provide early childhood education and consultation to shelter-based child care and family child care providers.
The Homeless Children's Network (HCN) provides comprehensive mental health services, case management, and family support services for homeless children, youth, and their families throughout San Francisco. HCN also provides a forum for networking, education, support and shared resources for the city-wide community of homeless family and children's service providers. HCN's Therapists serve over 2,000 unduplicated children ages 0-17 and their families per year. The families we serve represent a rich array of ethnicities and cultural backgrounds.
Community Development and Education (CDEP)
The Homeless Children's Network has had great success with its Community Development and Education Project. Recent program evaluations have shown that CDEP outreach efforts have played a significant role in the recent increase in mental health referrals to HCN, serving as a gateway through which permanent supportive housing (PSH) residents can access other HCN services.
CDEP participant-driven activities have also provided a venue for residents to recognize their potential as community leaders, with this added engagement helping families in public housing regain or maintain PSH residency.
